Art for the price of the "what feels right"

When was the last time you were able to buy an original piece of part for a price that felt right to you? Well, that's what happened on Saturday, June 27. 23 people each walked away with one or more of my original paintings for a price that they felt was right to them. It was a chance for me to find homes for my paintings, a chance to share a little art and beauty because it feels right, without cost being a barrier! I even had a 10 year old girl and her 5 year old brother buy one with their own money. After I sold that painting, I thought it was already a wonderful night, but the buyers kept coming and the paintings kept going. I took 37 paintings to the rooftop venue, sponsored by me and my partner with our friends Kevin Gallardo and Kole Welsh, and came home with eight. I'm still riding the high with armfuls of gratitude to everyone who came to the event, and especially to every person who took my art home with them, feeling connected to each one of them just knowing that maybe they are looking at one of my paintings right now.

The Collective Virtuosity of 16

At the post-conference workshop part of the Seattle University OSR Conference, June 20 and June 21, Designing Life and Work in an Upended World, 16 participants in my Art of Illumination workshop created these two pieces of art. One uses latex paint and water-based pigment paints, the other is based on zen calligraphy. I am still wowed by what they were able to create together.

The art reflects an arts-based learning process based on collective virtuosity, the experience of wholeness, of feeling something magical as part of a synchronous rehearsal or performance like a symphony, choir, theater, or dance group. The workshop asks: What would happen if individuals' in organizations could have that experience of collective virtuosity? What would happen? How could it happen more in your organizational life? In even your personal life?

It Just Takes Time

Sometimes, it just takes awhile to realize what you really care about. Even though my interest feels like it gets narrower, it also strangely gets broader, because I feel that it connects to so many opportunities.

What I really care about is described in six video essays in this website update (click on HOME to the left under MAIN MENU) with information about a workshop that explores the experience of collective virtuosity, the experience of wholeness, the delicate balance between the individual and the collective.

Among the video essays there are opportunities for you to comment. If you do, please write the name of the video in the subject field. In the near future, your comments will be compiled and shared for others to cross paths with you. So, make sure to include any website references for them to find out more about you, too.

Okay, your turn. Help me take my website to the next level. What about you creating your own, kind of like mine. Would you be interested in doing something similar, except with a different video clip selected from a library of clips that I make available to you, with your own message, voice, and music? If you're interested, email mark@pathscrossing.com and tell me what you might use it for with a few words about what you would like to say. If you write, I'll invite you to help me design this feature.
