The Art of Illumination Workshop

a five-part experiential workshop series
an opportunity to explore your personal leadership
in parallel to real-time work situations, issues, challenges, and opportunities,
weave your learnings and insights into your work, week after week

Workplay_event_poster_image_3Each session engages participants with a distinctively different combination of theatrical performance, playful experimentation with structual modeling, storytelling, visual art, zen calligraphy, and ensemble in order to discover insights that guide personal and business situations, challenges, and opportunities.

Over the course of the event series, participants will enhance the leadership competencies of self-knowledge, understanding of others, dealing with ambiguity, and innovation. This event series
is designed for participants to discover and renew the core of their personal leadership by exploring
capabilities to:
-  Be open and trusting with others without defensiveness or filters
-  Pick up on the positions, intentions, and needs of others with sensitivity
-  Rely on both intuition and information when shifting gears and coping with change
-  Build upon their and other's ideas to promote the best interests of what is at stake

art of strategy paintings

This series of paintings is based on the writings of Sun Tzu called "The Art of Strategy." There are 13 chapters in his writing. The first painting reflects the title, the remaining paintings, each for one of the selected chapters. I also do a keynote called "Hidden Potential" which uses images of these to inspire participants to breakthrough obstacles to their hidden potential.

Portraits

These are oil paintings, 30"x40", of some very important people in my life who have played the roles of teacher, mentor, coach, guide, confidante, and partner, in the pursuit of my purpose and passion as a speaker, artist, performer, envisoner, author, and trainer.  In my solo show, "One Arrow, One Heart," I play each of these individuals and myself. The paintings are currently not for sale. 24" x 30" prints from photos are available for $500.

My Book, The Edge of Not-Knowing

Finally, my book is published, The Edge of Not-Knowing. I've been working on this book for the last five years. Not until my extended 30-day vacation with my partner Jan Stary to Prague in December 05 and January 06 did I find my muse. While there, I wrote the first five chapters, then found myself in Copenhagen at the invitation of my friend David Barry. After that trip in April 2006, I found new inspiration to write the last two chapters.

There are so many people to thank for being a part of this book for their conversations, their shared experiences with me, and their gracious support to pursue a meaningful life. First, my partner, Jan. There were so many versions that he's read, that it was almost borderline schizophrenia. I would ask him to read a copy, then give him a new version the next day before he had a chance to finish the first. It made him crazy. I learned. So, I waited until all the edits and writing was complete. He read the last version before it finally went to press.

Another big appreciation goes to Patrick Combs. You'lll see Patrick's name throughout the book because of the many conversations and ways that he has so graciously supported my journey. If you get a chance, go to his coaching website, you won't be disappointed to learn from the person who has been a tremendous influence on my story.

Thanks to David Jaeger, Steve Knipp, Gary Hyatt and Steve Junion for their tireless effort to read, edit and comment. Without your heart-felt efforts, many are better able to understand the ideas and thoughts that I am trying to communicate.

I am so grateful for so many others who have been a part of my story, by sharing your story, inviting me to be a part of your life, and providing me wisdom and guidance along the way. Grateful appreciation to Carol Yamada, Nancy Cook, Charlie Tilley, Alok Hsu Kwan-han, Philip and Mikela Tarlow, Johnny KleinMarya Sea Kaminski, Matt Smith, and Mark Miller.
